Watson Wellness Pro - Kate Watson, M.A., Ed.M., DrPHc
Healthcare and Social Services Training Institute

Professionals who work in health and social services are invited to explore the following training options to improve their practice.  Each workshop is typically offered once a year at Watson Wellness Promotion (see: Events Page for the upcoming schedule), but organizations may request that a workshop be brought directly to their place of business at any time.

Contact Kate@WatsonWellnessPro.com if you would prefer to bring a workshop to your place of business, rather than wait for the next offering at Watson Wellness Promotion’s office in Northern Liberties.

Motivational Interviewing for Healthcare Providers
This workshop is ideal for anyone who performs direct patient care, and who frequently engage in conversations with patients about changing their behavior (managing diabetes, quitting smoking, reducing alcohol use, adhering to medication as prescribed, etc.).  Decades of research have demonstrated the effectiveness of Motivational Interviewing (MI) as an evidence-based intervention to compassionately guide the behavior-change process. In a recent meta-analysis, MI was found to be more effective than simple advice-giving in 80% of studies. Check out What Is MI? to learn more about this professional development opportunity.

Deep Dive into the Stages of Change
Many healthcare providers are familiar with the Stages of Change as a theory for understanding a patient’s level of readiness to change a behavior.  This workshop translates the theory into actionable skills, and also asks providers to consider their own level of readiness to support patients in their journeys toward health and wellness. Go to the Events Page to see when this workshop will be offered next, or email Kate@WatsonWellnessPro.com to request this workshop to be delivered at your place of business.

Compassion Fatigue and Self-Care
Our work with patients is challenging, and it changes us as people- for the better and sometimes for worse. This workshop explores the topic of vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue.  Participants will make actionable plans for promoting and maintaining their own self-care.  This workshop can be useful for professionals at all levels of experience.  Go to the Events Page to see when this workshop will be offered next, or email Kate@WatsonWellnessPro.com to request this workshop to be delivered at your place of business.

Domestic Violence: Screening, Intervention, and Prevention
This brief workshop is appropriate for healthcare providers, psychologists, social workers, case managers, educators, and anyone else who is interested in an introduction to basic theories and vocabulary associated with intimate partner violence and domestic violence.  Participants will learn trauma-informed approaches to addressing patient concerns. Go to the Events Page to see when this workshop will be offered next, or email Kate@WatsonWellnessPro.com to request this workshop to be delivered at your place of business.

Victim Advocacy Skill-Building Intensive
This interactive workshop is intended for current victim advocates, and assumes the participants have some experience working with victims of violence and trauma.  This is a skill-building intensive workshop.  It is fast-paced and hands-on.  An important piece of this workshop is a deep exploration of the meaning of victim advocacy as a professional identity.  Go to the Events Page to see when this workshop will be offered next, or email Kate@WatsonWellnessPro.com to request this workshop to be delivered at your place of business.

Trauma-Informed Practice in Health and Social Services
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events that can have negative, lasting effects on health and well-being.  Because 64% of the population has experienced at least 1 ACE, it is likely that healthcare providers will encounter patients who are battling the negative consequences of trauma.  This workshop teaches healthcare providers about the health correlates and consequences of trauma, emphasizes the psychological and emotional safety needed for both patients and providers, and helps providers avoid accidental re-traumatization in a healthcare encounter.  Go to the Events Page to see when this workshop will be offered next, or email Kate@WatsonWellnessPro.com to request this workshop to be delivered at your place of business.
