Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events that can have negative, lasting effects on health and well-being. Because 64% of the population has experienced at least 1 ACE, it is likely that healthcare providers will encounter patients who are battling the negative consequences of trauma. This workshop teaches healthcare providers about the health correlates and consequences of trauma, emphasizes the psychological and emotional safety needed for both patients and providers, and helps providers avoid accidental re-traumatization in a healthcare encounter.
